Beltronics STi Ka Band save :D!
I was recently moving briskly across the NJ state freeway of I-80 when all the sudden STi Begin's it's sniff out of a officer using Ka Band radar. Before I know it i'm starting to come in range of the officer on my left, "forward faceing radar." Then I look over and to my amazement it was the same car that was parked on the opposing side of the freeway on my way to NYC. It was a Blacked out dodge charger, with black tinted windows, black rims. The entire car was black even the grille. It made me want this dodge charger for the purpose of laser "lidar" invisiblitiy due to black being an absorbant color for light. Thus, making it a very difficult color for Lidar, "Infra-red light" to have an effect on. Once I realized this was a cop for real I was amazed! There where no identifing marks which isn't new to me. Although, no spotlight's on the sides, no markings on atleast 1 door, new seeable led strobes? I began to wonder if he pulled out after me, should I take it as a real stop, or could this maybe be one of those inpercenator's? Perhaps, the officer's need a wake up call that trying to impercenate the public can't hurt your ability to be seen as an authority figure to pull the public over. The first time hey attempt this with me, and i'm had I am planning on not stopping. Because in my opinion it isn't a legitimate police, or peace officer recognizable vehicle. Therefore who am I to know that this isn't some dude in a costume? I might just drive him out of his jurisdiction on purpose, because of their arrogance.

Ka band is difficult to detect and the Bel STi does a great job at detecting ka band.

Youv'e probably seen me post this several times "elsewhere", but the STi is my favorite rd of all time. I've had more REAL, quaity saves with this rd than any other one I've owned. It's control layout, ease of programing and the very good auto dim feature make it a winner for me. You also can make it fairly quiet in almost any location while maintaining excellent all around performance. Just my .02.

I wish you didn't have to go into the programming menu to change the brightness setting. Auto dim is a nice feature if it's working right. The alert lamp is nicer than the Redline. And the Bel STi still has the city mode option for filtering x band.

And if you send your Bel STi in for repair, Steve Kanny is the only one I would have work on my units as he does the "best" job of all the technicians.

Salmon is them one who fixed my X50 S7. Now that my wife and I are getting divorced, she got the X50! It's hardwired in her subie and I don't have the heart to ask for it back and she NEEDS the X50. Back on topic, I would be leary of any unmarked car until you can clearly visualise the individual as being an leo. Oh and did I already say the STi rocks?

Re: Beltronics STi Ka Band save :D!
When I see a totally "blacked out" car here in Maryland it's an instant red flag for me. I saw a black Mustang in Howard county years ago and I was immediately suspicious. A few days later I saw him all lit up (the lights can't be seen behind the tint until they're on) pulling someone over.
A car with that much tint here in Maryland is either illegal or a cop. I've had friends get pulled over for legal tint. They didn't get a ticket but they did get pulled over nonetheless. So any nice car (i.e. looking mostly OEM, no aftermarket shenanigans) that is black and has heavily tinted windows is probably a cop.

Very interesting. I feel the same. Especially in NJ as they are too strict in NJ the average person could not have something like that there or else they would be having issues with the local cops daily as you say. The cruiser was so obvious on the shoulder. It was so swift to paint it all nice a pretty black for me then it stuck out even more on the semi sparkling roadway of tar and chip. Sometimes they are not as sly as they think they are. He would have been better off hiding in the thick tree's in the shadows. Like they used to back in Michigan.

They are much better off playing the shadow games with a Ka 35.5 quick trigger off-axis from holes in the tree's in the median right after a 45 degree curve in the roadway.

I'm still around and yes, I am still obsessed with 35.5 GHz detection!
