S.C. Trooper's Dropped Radio Prompts Massive Response
TAYLORS, S.C. -- The Department of Public Safety said that a trooper dropping his radio prompted a massive law enforcement response near Taylors on Wednesday morning.
The incident happened near the Eastside YMCA on Taylors Road about 8 a.m.
DPS spokesman Sid Gaulden said that the trooper, identified as Lance Cpl. David Johnson, was working at a crash scene when one of the people involved fled. He said that during the foot chase, Johnson dropped his radio. He said that because dispatchers could not get in contact with Johnson a call for help was sent out.
Johnson suffered a dislocated shoulder during the chase, Gaulden said. He said Johnson was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital and treated for his injury.
Gaulden said the person the trooper was chasing, identified as Zebbie Hudgens, was found in a crawl space under a home. He said that Hudgens was bitten by a search dog while he was being arrested. Hudgens was taken to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries.
Hudgens was charged with possession of drugs and resiting arrest, Gaulden said.
